Community and environmental benefits
The rail programme delivers a range of significant benefits, including reducing heavy vehicle movements, particularly along the Taihape–Napier corridor, easing pressure on local roads. By shifting freight from road to rail, it improves road safety outcomes and lowers emissions, supporting more sustainable transport. The programme also enhances wood flow efficiency and achieves meaningful freight cost savings, contributing to a more effective and economically viable supply chain.
